Explore your own mindset around personal loss whilst equipping yourself with new skills of sensitivity and practicality. Gain renewed confidence with helping others who are struggling with the process of grief and despair in coming to terms with deep personal loss.


:: Target audience
Staff who handle grieving clients daily e.g. Estates Administrators or specialists who support people dealing with loss.


:: Objective
To have the skills and confidence to deal with bereaved clients (or those experiencing loss) effectively and sensitively

:: Learning outcomes
  • Insight into your own experiences of dealing with grieving clients
  • Understanding the human responses to loss
  • Insight into your own experiences with loss
  • A basic understanding of EQ as it pertains to dealing with loss
  • An introduction to active listening skills
  • An introduction to Basic empathy skills (versus sympathy)
  • An introduction to Basic counselling skills
  • Understanding the differences between practical and personal problem-solving

:: Course content:
  • Typical problems with dealing with bereaved clients (come prepared with examples) – understanding real life case studies and mistakes administrators have made.
  • Kubler-Ross Model – dealing with loss and moving from denial to acceptance
  • Sharing personal losses – real life case studies to get in touch with ones own grief and experience
  • Emotional Intelligence - your potential to feel, use, communicate, recognize, remember, learn from, manage and understand your emotions.
  • Emotional Counselling – using Rogers’ “Unconditional positive regard” with an exercise
  • Listening exercises – exercises to practice listening
  • Empathy skills – what it is and how to use it naturally
  • Personal and Practical problem-solving – know the difference and ensure you do both
